Email: e.j.parr@outlook.uwic.ac.uk Monthly Blog 17/01/11 Hi all and a massive welcome back! 03/12/10 Hi all, 08/11/10 Hi all, Hello everyone! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 20/9/2010 The purpose of School Representatives is to represent the views of students and the STARs (see STARs below) to your school and the University. The School rep assists the Students' Union in providing an effective course representative system, coordinating representation within their school and provide effective feedback to the SU at its monthly meetings. This is an extremely important role as it ensures that, through the representative system, all students have an input into areas such as programme content and delivery, assessment and feedback, learning and teaching, and timetabling. If you are having any issues on your cours,or within the school please get incontact with either your course StAR or drop me and email.

I hope you all had a brilliant holiday off and you have all come back refreshed.
Also a big good luck to any of you doing any exams or dealing with any assignment deadlines!
There’s very little to report so early on in the term, but a heads up on ‘SU Awareness’ week beginning Monday 7th Feb, where we will be promoting amongst staff and students all the services that the SU offers, focussing on the representation available, clubs, societies and commercial operations.
As always, any advice you need or contributions you may wish to give, just email.
Cheers,
Emma.
Well it’s hard to feel any more Christmassy with the weather we’ve been having!
But try and keep up the hard work for another 2 weeks!
Thank you to those who attended Staff/Student Liaison Committee this term, I hope you got the response you wanted from it, if not get in touch and I’ll see how I can help.
I’ve attended meetings with the Vice-Chancellors Board; Learning and Teaching Committee; and a meeting of the Trustees of the SU. All of which proved useful and helps towards providing the best student experience possible.
In regards to the Student Activity Fund Issue, this is still ongoing as to whether it will be implemented and it what way. You’ll be kept in the loop all the way.
I’d also like to say a big well done to all of you are getting involved in societies and activities. It all looks good on your CV, and don’t forget about LED and IntraMural Sports if you’re looking to boost your skills!
As always, any issues just email.
Have a brilliant Christmas all of you.
Cheers,
Emma
We are officially halfway through the first term, and I am sure some (if not most) of us are already wishing for Christmas!
The Activity Fund voting was a big success with around 1300 of you voting, so well done for putting your opinions out there.
StARs training also went down brilliantly, those that attended felt that it was useful and a generally a good day, so well done and thank you to those who attended.
Catch up training is still being organised to those who missed it.
So far this month, I have been:
* Getting on top of all the teething issues of a new year!
* Ran StARs training alongside the other School Reps.
* Met with the Dean of Health Sciences Adrian Peters.
A few things we discussed were: the success of the addition of the School of Management to Llandaff Campus; library resources; students involvement in open days; the loss of 11 members of staff this year; and the management of expectations with prompt feedback on work; and the appointment of Paul Belcher as the new Director of Learning and Teaching for the School of Health Sciences.
* I have also attended a meeting alongside the Sabbaticals with the Vice-Chancellors Board.
Staff/Student Liaison Committee is on Monday 22nd of November at 13:00 in room D120 on Llandaff Campus. Anyone is welcome to attend to raise any and all NON-COURSE related issues. If you have something you want raised on your behalf, then contact your course rep or myself with the details.
Another issue on the horizon at the moment is the prospect of a university fees increase. Please see the following link for more information and to get involved in the protest:

Enjoy yourselves for another month!
Cheers,

I hope you have all well and truly recovered from Fresher’s Fortnight and have got your heads stuck into your studies! We’re already coming up to Reading Week for those of us lucky enough to have them!
I’d like to say a big thank you on behalf of the SU for the fantastic response received at the Fresher’s Fayre in regards to signing up to societies and volunteering to be a StAR.
The newly formed IMS (Intra-Mural Sports) and LED initiatives are available all throughout the year so it’s never too late to sign up for anything. Please explore the SU website to make sure you are as aware as possible of the opportunities available to you from the SU.
For those who have decided to be a StAR well done for putting yourselves out there! You’ll be reminded nearer the time as well but a date to stick in your diaries is Saturday the 23rd of October. This is the training date for all new and returning StAR recruits. The training promises to be rewarding and fun and a great introduction to teaching you how you can best fulfil your role as a Student Course Rep, as well as meeting your Sabbaticals and fellow StARs.
If you’re still interested then please email myself or see your programme director before the 15th of October deadline.
The news of the moment is the Referendum the SU are holding in regards to the proposed Activity Fee to be brought in for the 2011/12 intake. Any questions or queries as to what this is and how it will work, please email myself or go on the SU website and find it on the front page to access some Frequently Asked Questions. It’s important you guys read up on what this is so as to be able to make your vote count. This is a fantastic opportunity for future students to reap the rewards of your decision, so VOTE!
Voting will be taking place from now until Friday 22nd of October. Drop into the SU office or grab me from around campus to place a vote.
Finally a reminder that I am available AT ANY TIME to hand out more information or help with any problems or daft questions that you may have! Do not hesitate to drop me a line or arrange to meet me if you prefer.
Enjoy your month!
