StARs
Student Academic Representatives

StARs are the front line representatives for the students on their course. Student Academic Representatives (StARS) are either elected or have volunteered to represent other students on their module, course or department.

Their ultimate aim is to enhance the student learning experience. StARS attend student-staff liaison committees which are held between staff members and student representatives, they are there to help you get your voice across to staff members and departments.

As well as raising issues at staff liaison meetings, STARs work closely with the School Reps and can raise issues and offer feedback to them. School Reps are also employed by the Students Union and ensure that the students’ voice is heard at school level.
Becoming a STAR has numerous advantages as well as looking very good on your CV.

It will give you the opportunity to gain transferable skills, communication and representation. This year we are introducing a new structure to the STARs scheme. Each STAR will go through training, to prepare you for your new role. The main training day will be on Saturday 23rd October, this will give you an insight as to what being a StAR involves as well as meeting with the Students’ Union and your fellow StARS. The students union are raising the profile of StARS this year, StARS play an important role in the running of the representation structure, so you will have 100% support from the Students Union and the School reps as well as recognition at the end of your term.

If you’re interested in becoming a STAR, listen out in your first couple of lectures, where your tutors will be giving you all the details on how to be appointed alternatively you can contact the Students Union for more information.
