If the strength of a home advantage was ever to be proved beneficial then this week’s home fixtures would be an excellent case study. Out of 13 fixtures we claimed 11 wins on home turf. Starting off this Wednesday's wins was Men’s Badminton who beat Bristol UWE 6-2, followed by a solid 6-0 win for the Women’s Hockey 1st team against USW. Next up, Golf 2nd team swung to a 3.5 - 2.5 victory against Aberystwyth and Women’s Squash beat Northumbria 3-2.

In terms of team sports it was a 6 point Wednesday for Women’s Football who had two home games this week. 1st team were against Brighton 1st’s and after conceding a penalty in the first 20 minutes they were looking at the possibility of a first defeat of the season. An equaliser before half time meant head’s were up and 7 second half goals for the Archers meant the final score was 8-1, and all memories of the first half penalty were forgotten. Straight after, the 2nd team took to the pitch facing Exeter 1st team. Excellent performances throughout the team resulted in a 6-0 victory under the floodlights.

Women’s Rugby also recorded 2 wins from their fixtures this week. The 1st team scored 91 points with no return from Chichester 1st team and the 2nd team claimed a 52-10 victory at home against Bath 1st team. Notable performances came from Ceri Clarke with 3 tries, earning her the back of the match award and Katy Scorer achieving her first try in Cardiff Met colours. Elsewhere Men’s Rugby 1st team got back to winning ways beating Swansea 1st’s 37-3. The 2nd and 3rd team recorded losses on the road but the 4th team travelled the short distance to USW Newport and beat their 1st team 55-7.

Netball 1st and 2nd team travelled to Bristol where the 1st’s took 3 points from UWE (76-45) and the 2nd’s lost to a Bristol 1st team (39-54). Playing in the same league this year means the 3rd’s and 4th’s faced each other in a Cardiff Met derby. The 3rd team took the win (45-15) thanks to impressive shooting from Samantha Treadwell and Cerys Evans. Meanwhile the 5th team had a derby of their own against Cardiff Uni 7th’s, narrowly getting the victory to stay top of the table (22-19) with Grace Beal scoring above 75% of her shots.

On the Basketball courts the Women 1st team battled out a 63-62 win, veteran Sarah Wagstaff hitting a big shot late in the 4th and leading the team vocally to earn herself Player of the Match. Other big performances came from Beth Jones putting her body on the line for the team and the ever impressive Stef Collins showing fantastic poise throughout an extremely physical game. The Men 1st team took a loss away to UWE 1st team (44-85) and the 2nd team took a 14 point win from Bath Spa 1st team (58-44).

Hockey Men’s 3rd team smashed a notable 11 goals against Trinity St Davids with 1 scored against them, to keep them top of the table. The first team took a 3-1 win on the road at Bristol where the 2nd team also travelled to but lost 4-0.

Tennis had a mixed bag of results this week, wins from the Men’s 1st (10-2) and losses from Men’s 2nd and 3rd team against Cardiff Uni (2-10) and Winchester (4-8) respectively. Finishing up with a close 6-6 draw from the Women’s 1st team. Men’s Football reported a disappointing day with 1 win from the 5 teams in BUCS, the win coming from the 1st team 2-0 against Bristol.
