The argument for the home advantage just got stronger when 15 home games this week saw the Archers take an astounding 13 victories. With more at risk in a total of 21 cup/trophy fixtures both home and away, the stakes were high and all of 13 teams progressed to the next round of their competitions. 

Golf started off winning ways with a 5-1 defeat of Gloucestershire 1st team, closely followed by Men’s and Women’s Badminton who beat Swansea (6-1) and Portsmouth (7-1). 

On the blue astro of Cyncoed, Hockey had a good start to their day with Women’s 1st team hitting 7 past a traveling Sussex 1st team, who throughout the whole 70 minutes couldn’t manage to get inside the Archers D. The Women’s 2nd team added another victory beating Bristol 1-0 in a top of the table clash, with impressive performances from Elin Owen and a great goal from Danni Lunn. 

Men’s Rugby had fixtures for their 2nd and 4th teams, both securing wins. The 2nd team beating neighbours Cardiff 2nd (Medics) with the game ending 29-27. The 4th team played a 1st team from Royal AG and showed the depth and potential within the Rugby roster winning 32-17. 

On the courts Women’s Tennis beat Bristol 1st team (8-4) to stay 2nd in the Prem where they were newly promoted to this season. The Men also won against UCL 1st (4-2) to progress to the next round of the BUCS cup.

The first of the ‘Wednesday Night Lights’ fixtures saw Women’s Rugby 1st team under the 1st team pitch floodlights where they bought a performance to match the occasion, beating SWP&C 51-3. The other evening fixture was Men’s Hockey 1st v Exeter 1st team, a big clash in the Prem for the boys who took a well deserved 1 point from the 2-2 draw, both goals from Charlie Hunte.

Women’s Football 1st and 2nd teams were back to back on the 3G, the 1st team starting off the schedule with a 13-0 win over Gloucestershire 1st team. Solid performances from the whole squad, most notable Hannah Billingham finally getting on the scoresheet in the last 2 minutes after 10 previous attempts on goal. The second team then took to the pitch in a must win cup game, Georgia Bridges with a first half hat trick putting the game out of reach for Portsmouth. The game finishing 4-2 and the Archers through to the next round. 

Travelling teams had less luck but wins were bought back to Cardiff by Women’s Basketball 1st team and Netball 2nd team. Basketball beat Oxford 64-42, Judit Fritz cementing her role as a scorer with 23 points and Catherine Murray stepping up from the 2nd team with a solid performance. 

Next week’s evening fixture will see Men’s Rugby 2nd team kick off at 6pm on the 1st team pitch against St Mary’s 1st’s.
