Give A Fig Volunteering (GAFV) are a UK non-profit and the leading education volunteer providers on the amazing and beautiful tropical island of Sri Lanka. We are headquartered in Anuradhapura, at the heart of a vast rural area, surrounded by national parks, elephants, and other wildlife. From here we have easy access to the rest of the island, and we also operate a 4 day week, with alternating 4 day weekends, allowing you to explore.

We deliver English education (amongst other things) in partnership with Sri Lanka government, and their schools. We also work in rural development, and are launching as Give A Fig, Sri Lanka, an NGO, in March 2017. Our NGO’s core aims mirror those of GAF V – which are education, development, conservation, and income growing, all inextricably linked in the areas in which we work.

So volunteer with us, and make your CV stand out, make a difference, and enjoy experiences you’ll remember for a lifetime.

Give A Fig Volunteering support English language education in Sri Lankan schools through developing teachers’ pedagogy, and making the English language live for students through your volunteering with them. All schools teach English, and a number of schools, have English medium classrooms and schools. We also teach in villages, orphanages, in colleges, schools for child monks, and universities, all of which you could teach in should you wish to. English is vital for the children and young people here to gain access to higher education, and employment, to escape the cycles of rural poverty and day work of their communities.

Your role would be to coach / teach in schools, delivering a planned English language based support programme – that you can tailor - in school classrooms. Some of you may like to actually teach and lead from the front, and there will be opportunities for that too, should you wish to have them.

You could be involved in leading games activities, small group discussions, question and answer sessions, as well as working with teachers in extra-curricular clubs and activities delivered through English.

Essentially, you will be fully supported at all stages of your volunteering, which will give you experience of overseas education and development.

You will receive a certificate from Give A Fig and the Sri Lanka government recognising your participation in the government schools English language development programme
