United Purpose operates a small co-ordinating office in Cardiff. This office is the administrative and financial centre for all its overseas programmes and it plays a critical supporting role for the ten country offices.

 

The Programmes Team supports our Country Programme teams in many ways. We provide some funding support, line management, admin, linking with the communications and finance teams and ensuring our projects are as effective as possible. We keep records on all projects and donors, and coordinate information for organisational publications, including on learning and impact. 

 

Volunteers have played an increasingly important role alongside paid staff in helping UP achieve its objectives in the last few years. We aim to offer volunteers varied tasks, and genuine appreciation of the valuable roles they perform.

 

  • Role title: Volunteer Trust and Foundations Officer                
  • Reporting to: Rachel Dixon Programmes Officer (Programmes Team)
  • Location: Flexible. Ideally 1 day/ month in UP Office, 14 Cathedral Road, Cardiff, CF119LJ, UK
  • Dates: 1 or more days per week (3 month minimum)
  • Start Date: ASAP

 

The Role

 

The primary objective of this role is to support the Programmes team in managing and updating information relating to Trusts and Foundations (T&Fs). This will be a varied role which may encompass researching, database support, editing and general administrative tasks depending on experience. The following is not an exhaustive list, but illustrates areas of involvement.

Work closely with the Programmes team, including other volunteers to:

  • Review and refresh the current Trust and Foundations excel spreadsheet both in form and content, by researching major regional and national T&Fs.
  • Develop a good structure to monitor deadline dates, Trust focus area and aims.
  • In consultation with the Programmes Team send out funding proposals to identified T&Fs
  • Keep a record of outcomes and share these with the Programmes Officer
  • Background research on funding context, relevant events and innovative ways to manage our T&F fundraising
  • Other tasks as agreed with the Programmes Officer

 

Skills and Experience

 

Essential

  • Good written and verbal English.
  • IT literate, including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Good analytical skills-  ability to distil large amounts of information without using jargon
  • Good interpersonal skills and a friendly and flexible approach to teamwork
  • Disciplined and committed
  • Good administrative and organisational skills

 

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an office environment
  • Experience researching and/ or writing grant applications
  • Knowledge of development issues
  • Experience of working overseas
  • Working knowledge of French, Spanish or Portuguese
