The role of President is challenging but extremely rewarding. As the President you will be making important decisions on the direction of the Union and the activities it undertakes to enhance the student experience. You will be the main ambassador and external spokesperson for Cardiff Met Students’ Union. You will work closely with your Vice President, School Rep team, Part Time Officers and the Union’s senior management team building up to and delivering the Union’s strategic plan and values.

This role is extremely rewarding and provides you with extensive experience and skills to add to your CV whilst also building your network.

Responsibilities

  • Be the head representative for Cardiff Met Students’ Union and Cardiff Met students.
  • Represent the students’ views and values of the university population.
  • Responsible for financial position and performance of the Students’ Union.
  • Encourage student involvement with the Students’ Union.
  • Lead a team of student Part Time Officers
  • To enhance the student experience and engagement along with representing the views of the students’ at key meetings with senior members of the University, such as presenting to the Board of Governors. 
  • Be the main point of contact with external stakeholders, such as the Welsh Government and local authorities.
  • Work with fellow Students’ Union Trustees to ensure effective governance of the SU.
  • This is an exciting and diverse role which will provide you will many additional skills including:  

Leadership, campaigning, communication, organisational and planning skills, problem solving, presentation skills, public speaking, motivating and empowering others, financial awareness, budgeting and networking.

Skills and Attributes required

  • A passion to fully engage with the role, its responsibilities and the opportunities it provides
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills including speaking to large audiences.
  • A team player, prepared to listen and understand.
  • Ability to deliver the Students’ Union experience and actively engage with fellow students to understand their needs
  • Ability and confidence to express other students’ opinions.
