The role of the Vice President is challenging but extremely rewarding. You will be responsible for representing Cardiff Met students on education, welfare and representation matters. This is a student facing position and will involve you working with students across all of Cardiff Met’s schools as well as those studying in partner institutions all over the world. You will lead on the student representation structure managing the School Reps and supporting them to effectively lead their teams and represent the academic interests of students.
This role is extremely rewarding and provides you with extensive experience and skills to add to your CV whilst also building your network.
Responsibilities
- Support and defend student academic interests.
- Communicate issues between the SU, its members and the university.
- Maintain and develop links with students to ensure all elements of welfare are delivered.
- Support and develop the representation structure.
- Encourage student involvement with the Students’ Union.
- Assist the development plan of the SU on student representation across all schools.
- To enhance the student experience and represent the views of the students at key meetings with senior members of the University and external stakeholders.
- Work with fellow Students’ Union Trustees to ensure effective governance of the Students’ Union.
- This is an exciting and diverse role which will provide you with many additional skills including:
Leadership, campaigning, communication, organisational and planning skills, problem solving, presentation skills, public speaking, motivating and empowering others, financial awareness, budgeting and networking.
Skills and Attributes required
- A passion to fully engage with the role, its responsibilities and the opportunities it provides
- Good interpersonal & communication skills including speaking to large audiences.
- A team player, prepared to listen and understand.
- Ability to deliver the Students’ Union experience and actively engage with fellow students to understand their needs.
- Ability and confidence to express other students’ opinions.
