MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER


Cardiff Met Archers Basketball are recruiting a Media & Communications Officer who has a keen desire to work in the sport industry. The WBBL (Women's British Basketball League) is the top professional league for women's basketball in the UK and our aim is to further increase our exposure as the only Welsh franchise in the league.This is an ideal opportunity to work at a professional sports club and become part of a successful team on and off the court for the 21/22 season. We do have further opportunities to support our WPL programme (Senior Women's Wheelchair league) and NBL D2 (Senior Men's National Basketball League).

Main responsibilities:

  • The main press contact for the WBBL club, Cardiff Met Archers
  • Liaise and build relationships with regional and national media stakeholders to assist the promotion ofClub news and information
  • Composition, distribution and following up of Club press releases to media groups and supporters
  • Build content for the Cardiff Met Archers and Cardiff Met Sport TV platform by creating and executingengaging content, including player interviews on a weekly basis
  • Lead online interaction and content on game day
  • Co-ordinating & delivering our supporter engagement in advance and on game day – delivering theClub’s full customer journey and community engagement programmes
  • Provide game day preparation and delivery support to the Events Team including overseeing all gameday media requirements
  • Create in-depth coverage of the WBBL team with web content and Club announcements
  • Support the Club Media Officer in the organisation of the weekly media content
  • Manage the production of the Home Game Day Programmes
  • Contributing and planning content for the Club’s social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter andInstagram.


Essential Skills:

  • Exceptional communication and written skills
  • A keen interest in the sports industry, ideally basketball
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to film, edit, and publish digital content desirable
  • Knowledge around social media and photoshop
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Motivated individual who can build strong relationships easily
  • Well presented and personable attitude
  • Excellent organisational skills


Expected Working Hours: This role is voluntary, 6 hours per week, with primary working hours of Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. The candidate will be expected to work game days and events throughout the year, including those taking place at evenings and weekends. There is the occasional opportunity to travel including key away fixtures. The Media & Communications Officer will report directly to the Women’s Programme Lead.
