What we do

Citizens Advice is a national charity which provides free, independent, confidential & impartial advice to help people face their everyday problems, in a way which is open and accessible to as many people as possible. Our mission is to provide all people across the county borough of Bridgend with a range of advice services. It has been such a challenging year for many people and we pride ourselves to have been able to support over 5,000 people in helping resolve their problems in areas such as finance and debt; employment and family issues.

Could you help make a real difference?

Trustees are volunteers who are able to offer time, experience and enthusiasm in an unpaid capacity. The role of the trustees is to act together to provide a clear vision and direction for the charity, offer leadership and support to the senior management team towards achieving that vision.

We are looking to welcome three new Trustees to our board and help us to drive future developments in a financially secure way. We are committed to being inclusive, reflective, well-informed, rounded and fair. We would expect you to critically

evaluate information from various sources and to challenge decisions, but always in a way which is in the best interests of the charity. You should be passionate about wanting to make a difference, and value all people regardless of disability, gender, race or religion. We want the composition of the Board to reflect the diversity in the clients with whom we work. We particularly welcome applications at this time from:

·         Women;

·         young people;

·         individuals from a Black or Asian background; and

·         local people whose life experiences would help those who are struggling with uncertainty, problems & pressures.

Your commitment to us

We want hands-on Trustees who have the time actively to make a difference to the growth of the charity. You will be expected to prepare for and attend one board meeting and a couple of sub-committee meetings every three months.  This would require about 5 hours of unpaid work per month. Currently we are meeting ‘virtually’, which we are considering making a longer-term arrangement to assist flexibility and encourage greater participation. Travel costs and other reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are payable.

Our commitment to you

Being a Trustee can be extremely rewarding and you can gain vital skills and experience in leadership, management and governance even if you are previously unfamiliar with working as part of committees. We understand that some trustees may come with no previous experience as trustees. However, we positively support new, first-time trustees. We have prepared a welcome pack for you to make it easier for you to understand your responsibilities and you will be supported by a mentor. As a board of people from a variety of backgrounds, we are equipped with expertise in many areas and we are willing to share it with you.

What next?

Please send us an email outlining why you would like to be a trustee with us, to iva.gray@bcbcab.org.uk. If you required further information about this post, please let us know on the email address above. There will be an informal interview organised in late October. We look forward to hearing from you! Closing date is 17th October, 2021.
