The busy and innovative Marketing Department is looking for an all-round Marketing Officer, with particular skills in web technology and social media. The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills, and ideally, some experience in Public Relations. This is a fantastic opportunity for a flexible, highly-organised and dedicated marketer to play an important role in promoting Techniquest’s international reputation for excellence.
Role
•To maintain databases of teachers, schools and public for marketing and PR purposes.
•To work with the Marketing and PR Manager to develop the brand and maintain and increase the profile of Techniquest through press and public relations activity.
Main responsibilities
•Maintain and develop the website using web technology e.g. Joomla
•Maintain mailing lists and databases, while working within the Data Protection Act.
•Monitor and report on the success of Techniquest’s media and digital marketing activity.
•Work with the Marketing and PR Manager to administrate an effective marketing and PR strategy to promote Techniquest’s education services available at its centre in Cardiff Bay, and at schools, to increase uptake by schools in Wales.
•Update Techniquest’s status on social media including Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
•Monitor and report on Techniquest’s statuses on social media sites.
•Edit video and distribute media to schools.
•Work with the Marketing and PR Manager to plan and implement an effective marketing and PR strategy for Techniquest, for public programmes and other events in Cardiff Bay and Wales-wide.
•Manage press relations, including news articles, coordinating interviews, filming and launches.
•Write press releases, as directed by the Marketing and PR Manager.
•Write the four annual editions of the Quest, as directed by the Marketing and PR Manager.
•Work within budgets set by the Marketing and PR Manager.
•Place local, national and regional advertising.
•Commission print, photography and display materials for marketing purposes and to manage, arrange and co-ordinate their distribution and/or dissemination
Supporting duties
•To maintain awareness of emerging social media trends, identifying those that could be relevant to
•Techniquest.
•To work with the Marketing and PR Manager to commission web, print, photographic and display materials and to manage, arrange and co-ordinate their distribution and/or dissemination.
•To be involved in the preparation and staffing of external events aimed at promoting Techniquest.
•To represent Techniquest at external events including trade shows and professional education conferences.
•To work safely and to carry out risk assessment, training and other health and safety measures relevant to the role.
•To perform other duties which are not included above, but which are consistent with the post.
Personal specifications
Experience
•A minimum of 1 year’s experience working in a science, education, or visitor attraction environment.
Skills, knowledge, abilities
•Highly IT literate
•Experience of using software to edit digital media
•A high standard of written and verbal communication skills
•Ability to speak and write Welsh desirable
•A valid driving licence
•An understanding of the education system
