Becoming a Course Rep

During the initial teaching weeks of your programme, a member of University staff should take you through a presentation that explains what a Course Rep is and the benefits of becoming one. If you would like to sign up to be a Course Rep, please scroll to the top of this page and sign up for a FREE 'Course Rep Membership'. Once you have done this you will be eligible to sign up to attend a Course Rep Training session.

If you need any support regarding becoming a Course Representative, please get in touch with the SU Voice team via Representation@cardiffmet.ac.uk who will be happy to support.

Training for Your Course Rep Role

If you have successfully signed up for a Course Rep Membership role, welcome to the team! It is now vital you undertake your Course Representative Induction Training (CRIT). These are sessions which will equip you with the skills to navigate being a course rep, learn more about how you fit into the universities structure, and how you can make student life better.

All Course Reps must undergo CRIT, but you can choose to do this in a way that suits you (and your busy schedule) best.

You can either:

Watch the pre-recorded Course Rep Training video below and answer a quiz after completing this training. If you do not meet the minimum required level of understanding, we will be in touch to offer you further training.

or

Sign up to attend an in-person or live Teams training session HERE

Reporting Feedback To Your School Rep

A vital aspect of the course rep role is ensuring feedback is being passed on to your School Rep. This ensures that the school rep can address common issues across multiple programmes, and ensures senior members of your school are addressing outstanding issues.

Your feedback doesnt have to be pages along, but give your school rep enough information that they can look to address the issue - they'd also love to hear about any positive aspects of your studies.

Your school rep contact details are as follows:

CSM - CSMrep@Caridffmet.ac.uk
CSAD - CSADrep@Cardiffmet.ac.uk
CST - CSTrep@Cardiffmet.ac.uk
CSESP - CSESPrep@cardiffmet.ac.uk
CSSHS Llandaff - CSSHSllrep@Cardiffmet.ac.uk
CSSHS Cyncoed - CSSHSCyrep@Cardiffmet.ac.uk

Tools For Staff

Recruitment of Course Reps.

The recruitment of student course reps should take place within the first two weeks of teaching. This will enable us as a Students’ Union to train and equip the reps with the skills necessary to engage with university committees and further feedback forums.

The number of course reps on a course should be reflected in the number of students within the year's cohort. As such the guideline ratio is as follows:

1 rep for every 25 students.

Please see the documents to the right of this page for our SU Induction slides and Course Rep Recruitment Slides.

Registering Course Reps

Staff members no longer need to register their Course Reps as this will entirely be managed through students purchasing a Course Rep Membership (see the top of this page). Please instruct any student who wishes to be a Course Rep to purchase their FREE membership at the top of this page. If any student has any problems with this, please instruct them to send an email over to Representation@cardiffmet.ac.uk

To find out who has registered to be a Course Rep please see the Course Rep Database located in the Course Rep Oversight Group on Teams (Please message representation@cardiffmet.ac.uk if you need access to the teams site).

To fully support and enable the students to be involved in university committees, we would appreciate any effort in getting this information to the SU as soon as possible.

Course Rep of the Month

We are celebrating individuals who have been committed to their role and display a passion for improving the academic experience for all Cardiff Met students. We want University Staff, Students and Course Reps themselves to put forward anyone who they think deserves this recognition.

Winners will receive a certificate, trophy and some SU branded goodies!

Keep an eye out on Social Media to find out who has won!
