Cardiff Met Cricket
Cardiff Metropolitan University (formally UWIC) is one of the UK’s leading universities for student sport, offering a wide variety of affiliated sports and clubs. Due to its illustrious history and outstanding reputation, Cardiff Met CC is one of the few extremely fortunate clubs to benefit from additional support, enabling our players to achieve and perform at the highest level they can. These privileges include physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, nutritional support and performance analysis for all players.
We provide teams for Men’s 1st, 2nd,3rds and 4th XI and Women’s 1st XI as well as opportunities to compete in indoor competitions at local and national level. All teams compete in the British Universities Indoor and Outdoor competitions. Training and coaching is supervised by the Head of Cricket whilst students can benefit from the highly regarded UCCE Centre of Excellence Scheme which is based at Cardiff Met. The centre – one of six around the country – provides a pathway for players in our programme to combine their studies with opportunities of first-class cricket. We are proud to have contributed towards over fifty past and present students who have made this phenomenal achievement.
Although we place a substantial emphasis on our cricket, we are equally keen to equip our players with additional skills that will benefit them later in life once their university career has ended. Students have access to coaching courses, opportunities to develop links with local clubs and communities along with professional development tutorage. Hopefully this underpins our firm belief that our students should enrich their lives in as many environments as possible during their time with us, whether that lies inside or outside of cricket.

He would go on to spend time coaching with the Cardiff & Vale county age groups, as well as the Cricket Wales Regional Performance Centres.
Elliott initially got involved with coaching the CMUCC squad in 2018 as a player-coach, before announcing his university cricketing retirement in 2020 and continuing solely as the club's Assistant Coach.

Tomos brings a wealth of playing experience, having competed in the South Wales Premier League with Bridgend Town CC since 2016. He has also represented Glamorgan 2XI and Wales Minor and National Counties.
These opportunities gave him valuable insights into high-performance environments and the technical, tactical, and mental aspects of the sport.
Since 2022, Tomos has been part of the coaching staff at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where he has contributed to winning 2 BUCS titles as part of the coaching team. Alongside his university role, he has also worked extensively with the Bridgend junior section and served as the club coach since 2022, showing his commitment to developing players at both grassroots and performance levels.
Ben Kenchington – S&C Lead Coach
Ben is the Strength & Conditioning Lead at the club, where he oversees all aspects of athletic development and physical preparation across the squad. A proud alumnus of the university, Ben played from 2018 to 2021 and captained the 3rd XI to an unbeaten championship season—part of a four-year stretch without a single loss during his time with the club, a record he fully intends to maintain.
After graduating, Ben spent time working abroad before returning to complete a Master’s degree in Strength and Conditioning. He now coaches with SW7 Academy, helping develop young athletes from a range of sports as they work toward professional careers.
What sets Ben apart is his strong belief that being a good athlete starts with being a good person. His coaching philosophy centres around discipline, accountability, and creating a positive environment where players are encouraged to grow both on and off the field. Having experienced the unique culture of the club as a player, Ben was keen to get back involved during his postgraduate studies, and is now entering his second year in the S&C lead role.
With a strong support team around him and high standards across the board, Ben is excited to build on last season’s success and ensure the squad is physically and mentally ready for the challenges ahead.
