This festive month of December, I would like to share a combined update on the work I have implemented so far especially focusing on achieving key points in my manifesto.

Work so far-

  • In the beginning of my first term, I conducted the welcome week survey with Voice team to collect data on early-on student experience and share it with respective departments as part of the manifesto for student advocacy.
  • Based on my manifesto a safety campaign ‘SU Safety Met’ to ensure bystander and sensitivity training:
  • The SU’s Student Activities team and I have delivered committee training to club and society committee members including bystander intervention and awareness to strengthen student leadership and safety. We have also launched a tiering system to provide a framework for good practice for committees and encourage participation from students.
  • The Voice & Advocacy team and myself delivered Advice and Wellbeing Week from 27th to 31st of October across both campuses in aims of ensuring students are aware of the service here to support them, in collaboration with university colleagues from wellbeing, housing advice, money advice, and the University Liaison Officers from South Wales Police.
  • I also had the honour to chair AGM with over 162 students present and 125 proxy votes. Students actively voted and approved all the student motions submitted including paws on campus, food prices, lockers on campus, third full time officer and SU venue at Llandaff. I am working on achieving every single motion that has been passed.

Working currently-

  • I have been working in the Medr Consultation working group with the university to improve student experience, learner engagement code and CUC Code of Governance Update, sharing feedback on student governor perspective to represent student leaders better.
  • I have been working on disabled student framework, with the CSO, as part of the manifesto, to improve student wellbeing, to ensure long term accessibility, safety and resources for disabled staff and students,
  • On another key point in my manifesto, with the transport officer to improve bus services for M1, possibility of Lime bike services and working with estates team on better parking spaces, improving campus infrastructure.

Next Steps-

  • I am actively working on securing a SU Venue on Llandaff, and better funding for further SU activities. (Sports and societies- as part of my manifesto)
  • I am also working on the upcoming social media campaign for the Senedd elections, collaborating with Cardiff University and USW in January.
  • I will be providing updates on the disabled student framework with the CSO, and the panel members including Neurodivergent and Disabled officer, Director of Membership services representing the SU.

  • Based on the safety campaign ‘SU Safety Met’, I will be providing updates and working with the Student Liaison officers, Respective societies and students to initiate this campaign.

I would like to wish everyone merry Christmas and happy holidays, stay safe and warm this winter.
