We’re excited to share that we're now a member of NUS Charity, the national body that supports Students’ Unions across the UK.
NUS Charity exists to make every SU the best it can be, helping to improve how they work, strengthen student voice, and create more opportunities for students to get involved.
So what does this mean for you as a Cardiff Met student?
- A stronger SU: We’ll have access to expert advice, training, and national networks that will make us more effective at representing and supporting you.
- Better elections and democracy: NUS Charity supports student elections across the country, ensuring fair and transparent processes that give you more confidence in your student voice.
- Insight and impact: Through national surveys and research, we’ll have better evidence to influence the University on the issues that matter to you.
- Stronger sector voice: Joining NUS Charity connects us with the wider student movement, ensuring your experiences at Cardiff Met are part of the bigger national picture.
NUS Charity vs NUS UK, What’s the Difference?
We know you may have questions about whether this means Cardiff Met SU is “back in NUS.” To be clear:
- NUS Charity is about supporting SU's as organisations. It provides training, resources, and development to make us a stronger and more effective Union for you.
- NUS UK (and NUS Cymru in Wales) is the campaigning and political arm, focused on lobbying governments and running national campaigns. We are not currently a member of NUS UK/NUS Cymru. Joining that side of NUS would require a student referendum to ensure it has the backing of our members.
By joining NUS Charity, we’re strengthening our foundations so we can do more for you, while keeping the decision on NUS UK firmly in the hands of students.
This is an important step in strengthening us for the future, making sure we’re equipped to deliver the best services, support, and opportunities for all Cardiff Met students.
