As the Students Union President, I am very fortunate to be a woman in a senior Leadership position as a pair with Rewathi our SU Vice President. The significance of International Women's Day goes beyond what’s celebrated on social media. It is a call to action, a celebration of resilience, and a reminder of the transformative power of inclusion. My journey, shaped by a mixed-race identity and active participation in women's rugby, is guided not only by personal experiences but also by the profound influence of my Mum and older Sister.

Coming from what is often ‘labelled’ as a minority group, I've encountered a range of challenges that could have defined me. Yet, my family, coaches, colleague, and peers have been my biggest supporters, teaching me that my identity doesn't limit me but empowers me to break through barriers.

Recently being called a ‘Trailblazer’ within my different roles as Sabbatical, Warden, Trustee and Personal Trainer, this has really helped me identify my core values as a person and push my determination to help other females overcome their challenges and inspiring a commitment to fostering inclusion within our academic community at Cardiff Met and helping others find their ‘Tribe’.

International Women's Day serves as a powerful reminder that true progress is achieved through collective and team efforts. Embracing diversity is not only an option; it is a necessity to me. As a mixed-race individual, I understand that our differences should be celebrated, and our unique stories become powerful tools for inspiring others.

Inclusivity is not just a tickbox to mark on a list of achievements, it is an ongoing commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. As Students Union President, I am dedicated to leading the charge in inspiring inclusion across our Members and Staff. Helping to encourage this through organized events, educational initiatives, and fostering Students Voices, we can create a space where diverse voices contribute to building a community.

Inspiring inclusion goes beyond recognizing differences; it involves actively challenging biases, dismantling barriers, and promoting allyship. In my role as SU President and as a rugby player, I am committed to encouraging open conversations that bridge gaps and encourages understanding. By sharing my experiences and perspectives, but also what I’m still learning. I believe that you inspire others to embrace diversity and create a more inclusive environment for all no matter of your background or race.

This International Women's Day, let us celebrate the strength that comes from embracing diverse backgrounds and perspectives. By inspiring inclusion and work to ensure that every female student, regardless of her identity, feels empowered to contribute her unique strengths to our academics, career path, sports, hobby or simply day to day life.

United together, we can create a legacy of empowerment, breaking down barriers and fostering an environment where everyone can feel like they belong.
