What are the Student-Led Teaching Awards (SLTAs)?

The Student-Led Teaching Awards (SLTAs) celebrate the staff who make an outstanding difference to the student experience. Nominated and selected by students, the awards recognise inspirational teaching, exceptional support, and the individuals who go above and beyond to help students succeed.

The SLTAs are an opportunity for students to say thank you and highlight the positive impact staff have across learning, wellbeing, community, and campus life. Whether through innovative teaching, dedicated pastoral care, or outstanding professional support, these awards shine a spotlight on excellence across the University.

AWARD CATEGORIES

Lecturer of the Year (6 awards: CSAD, CSM, CST, CSESP, CSSHS – Cyncoed Campus, CSSHS – Llandaff Campus)

This award recognises lecturers who deliver engaging, high-quality teaching and inspire students to achieve their best. Nominees demonstrate passion for their subject, creativity in their teaching, and a genuine commitment to student learning and success.

Personal Tutor of the Year

This award celebrates personal tutors who provide exceptional academic and pastoral guidance. Nominees are approachable, supportive, and play a vital role in helping students navigate university life and reach their potential.

Most Inspiring Staff Member

This award recognises a staff member who motivates and empowers students through their enthusiasm, encouragement, and positive influence. They consistently inspire confidence, ambition, and a love of learning.

Exceptional Support Award

This award honours a staff member or team who has gone above and beyond to support students. Whether through wellbeing support, academic help, or behind-the-scenes work, nominees make a meaningful difference to the student experience.

Welsh Language and Culture Award

This award recognises staff who actively promote and support the Welsh language and Welsh culture within the university community. Nominees champion inclusivity, celebrate Welsh identity, and help create a bilingual learning environment.

Professional Services Staff Member of the Year

This award celebrates outstanding professional services staff who enhance the student experience through their dedication and support. Nominees demonstrate excellent service, professionalism, and a strong commitment to helping students succeed.
