Campaigns & Events: Building a Safer, Supportive Culture

At Cardiff Met, our commitment to student wellbeing extends beyond policy. We implement our harm reduction approach through active partnerships and engaging events designed to challenge cultural norms, promote health, and foster a supportive community!

SU Freshers' Fayre

We kicked off the year by making sure you knew exactly where to find good times and real support- all thanks to a generous gift of non-alcoholic drinks from Tiny Rebel!

We used the Fayre to talk about more than just freebies; we made sure you had access to reliable harm reduction knowledge, delivered by the people who know it best!!

As a Students Union, we provided an interactive educational zone where students could use beer goggles and play Jenga to understand the immediate impact of intoxication on coordination. We conducted a quick perception survey to gather initial data on how this experience shifted student views on intoxication.

We were joined by experts who offered confidential advice and raised awareness of critical health issues:

  • CAVDAS was on hand to provide immediate, confidential advice regarding drug and alcohol use.

  • Public Health Wales engaged directly with students, raising essential awareness about health risks, particularly ketamine bladder syndrome.
  • We promoted DrugBot, an innovative digital platform available to students for confidential support and information.

Cricket Club: Leading the Zero-Alcohol Social Movement

During Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week 2025, the Cricket Club demonstrated outstanding leadership by proving that positive team bonding and social engagement can thrive without relying on alcohol. The club organised a dual-focus, wellness-centred event for its members; they hosted a welcoming coffee morning, providing a low-pressure environment for connection, and then followed up with a group walk around scenic Roath Park.

This initiative served as a powerful, visible example of a successful zero-alcohol social event. By prioritising outdoor activity and zero-alcohol connection, the Cricket Club successfully reinforced our policy aim to encourage informed, responsible decision-making and champion alternative social activities, setting an excellent standard for all sports teams and societies!
