Role: Social Media Communications Assistant Volunteer

Responsible to: Senior Administrator

Hours: TBC/as agreed with Senior Administrator

Location: Race Equality First Offices, 113-116 Bute Street, Cardiff, CF10 5EQ

Purpose of Role:

Race Equality First is a charity which works towards combating racism and promoting equality. Established in 1976, the organisation is the Race Equality Council for Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and has over 39 years of experience as the recognised lead body in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan for tackling racial discrimination.

The Social Media Communications Assistant volunteer will support and assist the Communications Team in all types of social media activity Race Equality First undertakes.

 

Summary of Role:

 

  1. Work with the Communications Team to ensure social media tools (Facebook, Twitter etc.) are kept up to date.
  2. Manage presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter and other similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs and seeding content into social applications as needed.
  3. Monitor trends in social media tools, trends and applications.
  4.  Create and manage relevant blog posts on Race Equality First’s blog.
  5. Work with the Communications Team to increase followers on social media sites.

 

Relevant Qualities, Skills & Experience:

 

  1. In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.) and how they can be deployed in different scenarios.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal format.
  3. Interpersonal skills – i.e. is friendly, approachable and enjoys interacting with different people.
  4. Enthusiastic attitude.
  5. Believes in Race Equality First’s mantra of ‘Equality for All’.
  6. Willingness to work as part of a small team.

 

Everyone who works and volunteers with Race Equality First:     

  1. Works within the guidelines of the Volunteer Policy and related organisational policies and procedures (eg. Health and Safety, Equalities, Access, Child Protection, etc.)
  2. Ensures the health and safety of clients, staff and volunteers by following designated procedures.
  3. Acts as a representative and ambassador for Race Equality First.
  4. All work undertaken and produced by volunteers for and on behalf of Race Equality First, will remain the copyright of the organisation.

 

Full training will be given on The Equality Act 2010, Race Equality First and External Communication (including Social Media: Good Practice). 

Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
