Details
Mirus is a charity which supports adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, and mental ill health to lead fulfilled lives in their communities. We are looking for volunteers to become befrienders, social group leaders, walking group leaders, welsh club leaders and Volunteering buddies (volunteers who mentor another volunteer with additional support needs). We provide full role induction plus a guided development plan with a range of further training and development opportunities. Role descriptions can be found via the mirus website above, and I am happy to discuss our opportunities with anyone interested. Opportunities can be as little as 2hours a fortnight, given at a time that suits the individual – daytime, evening, and weekends are available.
Where
Cardiff, Swansea, Ceredigion, Bridgend, Gwent, Powys, plus opportunities to volunteer from home with our groups.
Who
No experience is needed – a positive, empathetic and supportive attitude is important. We will give all the training and support needed. Volunteers need to be 17+, be willing to for us to undertake a DBS and reference checks, and have a minimum of 2 hours per fortnight to give.
Our opportunities would be perfect for students looking to gain confidence and life skills, experience in health and social care, mentoring, health and wellbeing, mental health, community connecting, and more. If a student is looking to gain a particular type of experience or access training and development for a particular skill we aim to meet this wherever we can.
You can find information at our website here https://www.mirus-wales.org.uk/volunteer/befriending/
