Dance Society

Dance Society Returning in 2019
After a year with no one running the society all that looks to be changing in September 2019, please see below
Hi everyone, my name is Bethan and I am the new President/Dance Captain for Cardiff Met Dance Society 2019/2020. I will be starting my PGCE course in September 19 and will use my 3 years of being Vice President of BSU Dance Society to make this dance team the best yet! The main aim for this year is to participate in the UK’s largest inter-university Dance competition at Loughborough University. This is a huge two day weekend event with celebrity judges, a range of categories and abilities, with workshops, socials and more. This involves rehearsing regularly to produce quality routines and arranging costumes and travel etc. Loughborough Dance competition always proves to be an incredible event where so many memories are made and gives the chance for each university to show their talents!
I aim to recruit an amazing committee team including: a social secretary, dance captains, a vice president, a treasurer and more, who will help me to recruit as many dancers as we can for our new society! If you are a dancer and would love to help teach classes, choreograph routines and dance in a fun, all-ability competition then please get in touch to be part of the committee (also looks great on a CV and comes with benefits!). Alternatively, if you just love to dance and want to be part of a close community of dancers making memories and performing then please join the society!
In Fresher’s week I will be hosting an information presentation where I will explain how the society works, our aims for the year, all the fun to be had and also the boring bits such as costs. We can then move on to some trial sessions! If you have any further enquiries or want to get involved then please email me on and I will get back to you.

About the Dance Society

On arriving at Cardiff Met in 2012, Chelsea Cinquegrani ( dance society chairperson 2013-2016) decided to create  the Dance Society, in order to bring together dancers from all across the university. With the help of the Students Union and a group of passionate dancers by her side, Cardiff Metropolitan's Dance Society was up and running by September 2013. Currently, dance classes are taught in Contemporary, Commercial Jazz and Street, with opportunities for members to teach their own choreography. The last two years seen  the society to grow in size and moved from strength to strength as a society. You can read below to see what we have been up to over the last couple of years.

So if you're looking for a fun way to meet new people, whilst keeping active - then sign up and come along. Whether you're an experienced dancer or, thinking about trying something new, we welcome all levels, abilities and styles. A great way to meet students with similar interests and have fun whilst keeping active. We always have a stand at Freshers Fayre where you can get more information and have a chat with our commitee. If you love to dance, or you’re simply looking for a new hobby, we encourage you to come along!

Our Success so far ..

The third year running, became one of our most exciting and eventful yet! Last year we said farewell to over half of our members, of whom  all graduated, however, this opened up space for us to welcomed new members with open arms. This year our society has grown in size, passion and enthusiasm, which has driven us to take on lots of new projects. We have entered two competitions this year, Cardiff University’s and Essex University’s Dance Competitions – where we won 3rd place in Advanced Jazz, Contemporary and Street. We had such fantastic weekends, and even traveled up the night before for Essex, which was such a great team building experience.  In order to get us to Essex we have to fund raise through various means; including bake sale’s (we raised an amazing £280 – showing that our baking is just as good as our dancing) and we performed a Flashmob in Cardiff city centre (where we raised a further £50). We were thrilled with the amazing response we received. We have also been backing various campaigns - we choreographed a dance piece to raise awareness for Mental Health Week 2015 and in 2016  a solo was produced by our very own vice chair and treasurer Rhiannon Sharp, and we also took advantage of a free salsa class at the Viva Salsa Charity event which helped raise over £300 for charity. What another amazing and fun year it has been! If this sounds like something you'd like to get involved with then come along :)

Each year we are tackling new exciting opportunities, and have worked extremely hard to take on new challenges. 2015/2016 saw our first entry in a competition, ran by Cardiff University, and we were thrilled to take home 'Best Choreography' over all categories and Universities.
