The following sports clubs are run by SU Sport. The content is managed by each individual club.
The club fees are for the 2021/22 academic year. Fees are set by the club and are subject to change the following academic year.
Cardiff Metropolitan University Hockey Club is entirely devoted to the development of the student as an academic, as an athlete and as a participant in social sport. The Club provides an opportunity for those who are aspirational to progress from local league into National and International competition. Cardiff Met as an institution has a history of excellence in Hockey in Wales which is further enhanced through a partnership with Cardiff & Met HC and Swansea HC. As a collective we have won many local league, national league, national and European competitions.
The University club currently possesses 2 Men's and 4 Ladies BUCS teams who compete every Wednesday against Universities throughout the UK. Both Ladies 1st & Mens 1st compete in the BUCS South Premier Leagues. Each squad has a number of athletes that represent Wales at U21 and senior level. There have also been a number of individuals who have represented Great Britain U23 whilst studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
The BUCS teams play at one of the premier Hockey venues in Wales and the UK. A Blue Tigerturf astro complete with dugouts, spectator areas, electronic scoreboard and in situ IP Camera’s used to provide high quality video analysis. Watch us in action on Cardiff Met Sport TV!
Under the guidance of a Performance Director for Hockey and its ‘Focus Sport’ status, the club strives to provide high quality student-athlete support, enabling students to achieve their potential. Focus Sports benefit from additional funding which includes a number of funded gym memberships and access to all sports facilities for focus athletes, strength and conditioning, nutritional support and discounted physiotherapy.
Cardiff Met HC continually strives to improve performance whilst support those who seek to engage in social competition. Those engaged in the performance environment benefit from a year round strength & conditioning program, advanced support psychology, performance analysis and physiology support program.
Cardiff Met also facilitate student engagement in club hockey with our partner club Cardiff & Met HC. Here students can participate in one of four ladies teams or seven men’s teams. The ladies teams compete within various levels of the South Wales Womens Hockey league, with the ladies first competing the South Wales Premier 1 division.
The clubs men’s teams compete across the South Wales and South West Leagues with the Mens first team competing in the England Hockey National League, Conference West. The Mens 1st have also been successful in numerous Welsh Championship titles, resulting in the club representing Wales in Eurohockey Club Champions Challenges, Trophy and in the prestigious EuroHockey League which features the top 32 club teams in Europe.

In order to process and activate your membership, your name, student number and any additional information you are required to provide to participate in your sport will need to be made available to the SU, committee members of the clubs you wish to join and external organisations where appropriate. Your details will be used to effectively manage your membership and communicate relevant club, fixture, social event information to you.
