Basketball - Men

The club fees are for the 2019/20 academic year. Fees are set by the club and are subject to change the following academic year.


Club Background

Basketball is an explosive sport filled with speed, power and high scoring games, sure to bring excitement to all, whether playing or spectating. Cardiff Met Archers Basketball Club has an extensive Senior Men's programme playing at a variety of levels, so there is definitely a place for anyone who wishes to develop their skills and compete. The programme has four men's teams in NBL Division Three (National League), BUCS (University League) and SWBA (Local League). The club also runs an intramural social basketball session, supported by Pinnacle Campus Sport, for anyone who wishes to play socially and develop their skills without the commitment to a team playing regular games. 

The Men's Basketball Club is one of the Cardiff Met Focus Sports who have been identified as a high performance club and under the guidance of the Performance Director aim to achieve the very highest standards. Focus Sports benefit from additional funding which includes a number of funded gym memberships and access to all sports facilities for focus athletes, strength and conditioning, nutritional support and discounted physiotherapy.

Tuesday: 20:30-22:00 - NIAC (National League)

Thursday: 07:00-09:00 - Sports Hall (Men's 2nd)

Thursday: 20:30-22:00 - Sports Hall (National League)

Friday: 20:30-22:00 - NIAC (Men's 1st & Men's 2nd)


NBL Division Three South (National League)

The flagship team for the Archers Men's programme is our NBL side playing weekend fixtures in the Basketball England National League across the South of England. The squad is coached by vastly experienced coach Vic Fleming and the players on our roster include current Cardiff Met students, Cardiff Met graduates, and players who have come through our Academy system. A number of the squad are high pedigree players who have received caps for the Wales national team. 


British Universities and Colleges' Sport (BUCS - University League)

Our BUCS programme consists of two teams playing on Wednesday afternoons against other universities in South Wales and the South West. Heading into the 2016/17 season, both our BUCS teams will compete in the BUCS Western 2B league, with the 1st team coached by Barney Blake (MSc Performance Analysis student); while the 2nd team are coached by Stefan Rosier (MSc Sports Coaching student). 


South Wales Basketball Association (SWBA - Local League)

The men's 1st and 2nd teams also compete in the SWBA Local League alongside the BUCS leagues, playing fixtures on weekday evenings against other South Wales-based club teams. The 1st team plays in SWBA Division 1, while the 2nd team compete in SWBA Division 2. 


Junior Basketball Academy

Cardiff Met Archers Basketball Club also has an extensive Junior Basketball Academy which gives senior players the opportunity to be involved in as coaches, officials and team managers. Players have the opportunity to gain qualifications, gain experience, develop their CV and support their academic studies through paid or voluntary work with the Academy. The work of our students with the Academy allows the club to move forward from within and develop the Archers Family feel that is one of the club's core values.
