IEAUN GARDINER

Come see me in #GardinersGarden

Everything I have done in my three years at Cardiff Met has channeled my passion for student voice, and student experience. As the current school rep for Cardiff School of Education, I believe I have helped the students of CSE and now it’s time to help the students of Cardiff Met.

I think I would make a good Vice President because I am determined, I am committed, I am passionate.

NO HIDDEN COSTS
The life of a student isn’t cheap.  Between textbooks, travel, and a dozen cups of coffee per week, expenses quickly build – and that’s before we start talking about rent.  I want to ensure university management listens to students’ concerns about hidden costs of education. I will lobby the University for a comprehensive breakdown of expenditure, available to all students, so they can understand and approve how their tuition is being spent by the University.

LIBERATED EDUCATION
Greater diversity and representation in all curricula: reading lists should include more perspectives from women, people of colour, sexual minorities, the differently able, and the international community so students are enabled to critique rather than perpetuate prejudices, and gain a more representative understanding of the world they live in.

CARDIFF MET IDENTITY
When you apply to Cardiff Met, you envision becoming part of the Cardiff Met family. I would like to work on making us feel more like a part of the family not just part of our academic schools.

TECHNOLOGY
Encourage the increased use of video and voice recording so you have these vital resources available for revision.

WORK/LIFE BALANCE
• Promote stress-free events throughout the academic year, especially during exam period. This could include yoga classes, painting, sport activities, pet a puppy day etc.
• To provide a buddy system for first years and international students to help when starting university life. This could include a range of informal events such as tours, dinners etc.
• To fight for better management of the personal tutor scheme for Undergraduates and Postgraduates. There is need for more contact and more opportunities to use this resource for placement, academic or personal support.

THE WHEELS ON THE BUS
I will push for a better bus service with increased routes and more regularity.

TRANSPARENCY
Increase transparency and communication between the SU and the student body. Regular updates via social media and an SU Vice President's blog.

And finally I would like to promote and encourage student engagement in sustainable initiatives.
