The Role

Are you a proactive and passionate student with an interest in equality, diversity and inclusion? Do you want to positively challenge the SU and University to do more for students? Equality and Diversity is a key area of focus for both the SU and University and we’re looking for a SU Equality & Diversity Part-Time Officer to develop and lead on new ideas, projects and activism within the SU, in line with the SU’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy for the 2022/23 academic year.

The SU Equality & Diversity Officer will help us to drive change and implement new initiatives as part of the SU Part-Time Officer team who look to create a better Cardiff Met for all students. You will draw on your own interests and knowledge to play a key part in shaping the important changes being made in this area and use student feedback to create campaigns and initiatives for students relating to student wellbeing.

Please note the successful candidate will not hold employee status with the Students' Union but will receive a monthly bursary of £100 between September and June as award for undertaking this representative position.

The SU Equality & Diversity Part-Time Officer will be responsible for the fair representation of all student groups within the Students’ Union and will strive to ensure a genuine spirit of diversity and equality of opportunity is present throughout the SU and University. The SU Equality & Diversity Part-Time Officer will explore new initiatives and campaigns for students whilst supporting the work outlined in the SU’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. You will be part of the SU Part-Time Officer team reporting to the SU President-Affairs & Community and working closely with the nominated SU Liaison and University Liaison.

 

Responsibilities

  • By maintaining an up to date knowledge of campaigns and initiatives you will generate innovative solutions to support the Students’ Union in providing training and information to staff and student representatives on issues relating to equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Represent the SU at the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee and the SU’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion forum
  • Form positive working relationships with student representatives making effective use of the SU Rep structure to ensure students views on equality and diversity are represented and utilised in project work and activism
  • Support the creation and development of student groups to champion equality and diversity raising the profile of campaigns and supporting national events.
  • Work to identify student groups ensuring SU communications allow equality of opportunity across the student body
  • Bring student views to discussions and communicate developments through student representative structures and the SU
