Students' Union staff meeting Cardiff Met students from Perrotis College in Greece

On 27th March 2015, staff from the Students’ Union set off to visit three Cardiff Met partner universities in Egypt and Greece.

Cardiff Metropolitan University has over 5000 students studying Cardiff Met programmes in different institutions around the world. The aim of the SU visit was to raise the profile of Cardiff Met in the partner institutions and to make the students and staff aware of how the Students’ Union can support them.

It was a busy week for the Students’ Union who firstly travelled to Alexandria in Egypt to visit the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport. They then flew to Athens, Greece to visit City Unity College, before finally visiting Perrotis College in Thessaloniki, Greece.

At each of the visits, they were taken on campus tours, gave a presentation to students on how the Students’ Union can support them and met with staff. They also had group discussions with students to discuss their university experience.

Students’ Union President, Josh Barnett, Vice-President, Stefan Kelly and Development Assistant, Amy Campbell attended the visit.

Vice-President, Stefan Kelly, said about the trip, “It was brilliant to meet the partner students and staff and to help them feel more part of Cardiff Met. They were so welcoming and we really enjoyed ourselves.”

He added, “With such a high number of Cardiff Met students studying programmes abroad, it’s really important to us as a Students’ Union that we do our best to engage with them.”

Moving forward, the Students’ Union plans to have more Skype meetings with partner students and staff and is also asking for student representatives from each partner institution to make 5 minute videos on their university experience to share with other partners through the Students’ Union website.
