"Taking on the role of School Representative this year has been a rewarding experience.
It gave me the chance to interact and collaborate with a wide range of both students and staff. I may never have normally spoken to them as part of my course. I think that variety and connection with different people across the university was one of the most valuable parts of the role.
Throughout the year, I had opportunities to engage with student voices across different courses and levels, from undergraduates to postgrads. I worked especially closely with postgraduate reps to ensure their feedback was heard and passed on to be acted on when possible. Regular meetings with university staff gave me the chance to raise student concerns directly and push for change.
There were also plenty of ways to get involved in wider Student Union activities. One of the highlights for me was Speak Week, where I had the chance to talk face-to-face with students about their experiences. Hearing directly from fellow students reminded me why student representation really matters, and the importance of the role.
To anyone considering becoming a rep in the future: go for it. It’s an amazing opportunity to make a difference in your school, develop your personal skills, and feel part of the university community.”
