This week (1st-5th November 2021) is Trustee Week in the charity sector, a week to celebrate the thousands of volunteers who give up their time to share their knowledge, experience and expertise to ensure that charities are operating effectively. Trustees are vital to the running of charities and at Cardiff Met SU, we have our own Board of Trustees which is the highest decision-making body at Cardiff Met SU. The board are in place to ensure that the charity (Cardiff Met Students' Union) complies with our own governing document as well as the law.

Across the UK, just 3% of charity Trustees are under 30, at the SU over 70% of our board are in this category, we are a student led organisation. The SU’s Board is chaired by the SU President-Affairs and Community, Venky Gonavaram. The role of the Chair is to lead the Trustee meetings, to protect the vision and values of the SU, ensure that the organisation meets the needs of its members and to guide the organisation's direction.

The SU’s Board is made up of:

  • Venky Gonovaram (Chair)- SU President-Affairs & Community

  • Naomi Wrigley- SU Vice President-Student Voice

  • Mike Davies- SU Chief Executive

  • CSAD SU School Rep

  • Mathew Jones- CSESP SU School Rep

  • Millie Quinn- CSSHS (Ll) SU School Rep

  • Craig Atkins- CSSHS (Cy) SU School Rep

  • Jesse Sigalov- CST SU School Rep

  • Nicola Amery- External Trustee

  • Alastair Milburn- External Trustee

The board of trustees review and monitor the SU's performance and progress towards its objectives and they ensure that Cardiff Met SU is working within its charitable purpose at all times. Each of the trustees has their own experiences that, collectively, help ensure that the Board can carry out its role.

The Board of Trustees makes important decisions to ensure the safety and good governance of the SU. For members of the Students' Union (all Cardiff Met SU students automatically become members of the SU), your primary route to the Board of Trustees is through the Sabbatical Officers who you elect in the second academic term of each year, or through your SU School Rep, who brings student voice from each area of the University to the Board.
